4 Romantic Things to Do in Singapore

Singapore has a reputation of catering mostly to high-flying financiers and businesspeople. And while it is true that there are many of these types there and that its central business district is one of the most productive in all of Asia, there’s actually a lot more to the city-state than commerce. In recent years it has grown in popularity as a destination for many different kinds of travellers and has even become a bit of a hotspot for destination weddings and romantic getaways.

This article takes a look at SIngapore’s romantic side and suggests a few things that couples could do together in the city-state.

1. Stay in luxury accommodation

Its links to finance and trade mean that there’s no shortage of luxury accommodation, which is why many couples also choose to stay in a 4 or 5 star hotel in Singapore when they visit. A trip to the Lion City will likely be a very memorable trip for people to take together, and staying somewhere nice will help make sure you cherish that memory for years to come. You can expect a very high quality of service, beautiful designs, and amazing food at many of the higher-end hotels, but each will be a little different so you might want to check the amenities to make sure that you will have everything you need.

There are cheaper accommodations in Singapore, but unlike other countries in the region Singapore has shown little interest in marketing itself as an affordable travel destination. Many visitors decide that if they are going to be paying anyway, then they will make the trip as special as possible.

2. Visit a sky bar or restaurant

Singapore is one of the best destinations in the world for enjoying delicious cocktails and food while looking out over the world from a great height. WIth so many high rises and skyscrapers in the city, there’s plenty of places where you can do this, although more popular spots with better views often charge a significant premium over ground-level prices. There’s usually also a cover charge.

3. Visit the Love Temple

Not all of the excitement in Singapore is to be found up in the sky. There’s plenty of remnants of the city’s past to explore in the narrow streets below, and one place that might be of particular interest to couples is Yueh Hai Ching Temple, which is also known as the Love Temple. The reason for this nickname is because the beautiful temple is dedicated to Yue Lao, a god of love and marriage in Chinese folklore. Many couples visit to ask for his blessing.

4. Take a stroll through Chinatown

Each of Singapore’s neighbourhoods has its own character. One of the most romantic is the charming Chinatown district, which is filled with narrow lanes, fascinating shops, and buildings that have survived since the city’s early days as a trading outpost.

This is only a small sample of the things that couples can do in this vibrant and sunny city. There’s so much more to taste, see and do. But choosing the right accommodation, arranging an unforgettable date at a sky bar, and strolling through charming Chinatown are a good place to start for a special and memorable trip.
