Jim Denevan Dazzles at Ocean Beach

Santa Cruz-based chef and artist Jim Denevan delighted the neighborhood with a massive art installation in the sand at Kelly’s Cove on Saturday, March 17. Denevan is famous for creating temporary art in natural landscapes, and used only a stick and a rake to draw spiraling circles during the low tide.

Denevan began working at around noon on Saturday, and San Francisco-based photographer Helena Price captured several pictures from the first hour of his work. You can explore more of Helena’s work as a photographer at her website.

The wind picked up dramatically in the afternoon, and another San Francisco photographer, Jana Asenbrennerova, captured more pictures once Denevan had left. The imprint of footprints by beach walkers were already noticeable by the afternoon. You can explore more of Jana’s work as a photographer at his website.
