What parts of Ocean Beach area are in tsunami zone?

Ocean Beach San Francisco tsunami mapThe White House has proposed cuts to the program that detects tsunamis at sea, tsunamis that potentially could flood parts of the neighborhoods near Ocean Beach.

Federal officials say there wouldn’t be any impact on public safety, but some tsunami scientists aren’t so sure.

Check the state map of the Ocean Beach tsunami inundation zone below, and tell us in a comment what you think. Are the proposed federal cuts misguided? Are you worried about tsunamis hitting the Ocean Beach area? What’s your plan in case a tsunami hits?

More about tsunamis, including the U.S. warning system and information on how to prepare for one, is available at the NOAA tsunami website.

  1. All the signs around the ocean beach were not necessary, waste of tax payer money.

If there is a tsunami come, it will flood the entire area not just ocean beach. What a unwise planning!

Why not step up with more earthquack warning signs every place in Californina, specially in ‘Fault’ line area,

why only spend $$$ to predict or forcasting the earth moving time. It will be more helpful than just put up the

sign tell people move up to the street, to the east side of town. Please change the focus, when the real

Tsunami hit the coast, people will be well prepare for it.

  2. Let’s all pray to God they’ve run out of money for those lame signs telling people to run east up the street when the big one hits. The feds paid millions for literally thousands of those visual polluting useless, obvious signs up and down the entire California coast (or across the nation even?). What a terrible ugly waste of time, money, space and messaging.
