Hit the streets for National Night Out with parties in the Sunset and Richmond
Noriega Street will play host for a neighborhood party in the Outer Sunset district Tuesday as part of National Night Out, a nationwide event that aims to cut down on crime, build a sense of community and create positive relationships between police departments and local residents.
The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center, a neighborhood nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Sunset District families, will offer a free barbecue on Noriega Street between 46th and 47th avenues. The party runs from 5-8 p.m., and some nearby businesses will participate in the block party as well.
In addition to the free barbecue, the Noriega Street party will have music, performances by neighborhood youth groups, and opportunities to talk with local police officers and firefighters.
In the Richmond District, the Richmond Police Station will also have a free barbecue, tours of the station, children’s activities including face painting and a bouncy house, and opportunities to get up close with a police horse and police motorcycle. A Fire Department engine also is expected at the station, on 6th Avenue between Geary Boulevard and Anza Street.
