The San Francisco Marathon will pass through Golden Gate Park on Sunday morning, with the course for the marathon and associated shorter races set for parts of John F. Kennedy Drive and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

The race also will affect parts of Middle Drive West in the park, plus part of the Golden Gate Bridge, 27th and 26th avenues in the Richmond District, and roads in the Presidio.

In addition to closing some roads to vehicle traffic for the marathon, the City will reroute a number of Muni transit lines and riders should expect delays on other lines.

  1. Good luck to all of those who are going to run the SF 26.2! I myself am an aging marathoner, who to date has run 27 marathons. I managed to qualify for Boston 7 times (ran it 6 times), ran Honolulu 10 times, Chicago 7 times, and have also run New York City and the Cape Cod Marathons as some of the notable marathons I’ve run. I kid myself that I still have what it takes to finish a marathon running (not walking), but the fact is, my better running days have been over now for some time. During my running heyday, I always wanted to run the SF 26.2, but I never was able to enter it for various reasons that some might view as excuses. Whatever the reasons, I regret that I didn’t run SF during my best running years. But marathoning is not a sport that is age restrictive; there are, fortunately, age divisions in every marathon. I still hope one day to run the SF 26.2. I most definately will not put down a sub-3 hour time should I get the chance to run it, but it doesn’t matter. I just want to add San Francisco as one of the marathons I finished before I really hang up my Nikes for good. Once again, good luck to all who are running it! Running the GG Bridge has to be such a thrill!

    Envious of you all,
