Fort Funston route
This is the 2.5-mile course I walked through Fort Funston. I give this walk a difficulty rating of 6 out of 10 for the following reasons: 1) increased potential of being killed by a falling hang glider; 2) increased potential of falling off a cliff; 3) sand-covered paths make for uneven ground, which could lead to ankle twists; 4) unleashed dogs could potentially trip you; and 5) Skyline Boulevard. If you skip the Skyline leg and backtrack through the park, I’ll lower the rating to a 5. I hope that doesn’t scare you off, because the park is truly fantastic and I insist everyone in the Bay Area spend an afternoon out there. Oh, and pay your taxes.
Hi. My name is Allison and I am a recent transplant from the Florida Keys, a chain of tiny islands that has one main, stick-straight road, and the impossibility of getting lost. After moving to San Francisco in 2008 and getting lost for the umpteenth time, I made it a goal to walk every street to get my bearings in this hilly, twisted town. After 18 months of steady plodding, I’m more than 500 miles into the journey. To keep track of where I’ve been, I keep a blog, allisonwalkssf.com.

Editor’s Note: Allison Walks will be taking a break for a few months. It’s been a pleasure to follow Allison’s explorations of the Ocean Beach area over the past 10 months, and we look forward to her return in the future.

FYI the capacious parking lot is former nuclear missile launch site SF-59L. The underground missile storage bunkers are still there, under the concrete caps.
Ah yes, nicely put, eyvreone.
