Southbound Great Highway to close June 20-24 for sand clearance
The Southbound portion of the Great Highway will be closed for one week, starting at 8am on Monday June 20, and will re-open at 3pm on Friday June 24, according to a press release from the Department of Public Works.
The road will be closed to allow DPW workers to transport sand piles that have accumulated along the walking promenade that stretches from Noriega Street to Santiago Street. This is an annual maintenance project at the beach.
Motorists are encouraged to use Sunset Boulevard as an alternative southbound route, as to minimize the traffic back-up on the Lower Great Highway. Any one accessing the beach during the week is advised to stay clear of the construction.
More information regarding the project and the closure can be found at www.sfdpw.org
