Dog Walkers to march from Ocean Beach to Stern Grove
On Saturday at 10 a.m., opponents of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area’s proposed Dog Management Plan will convene on Ocean Beach at Sloat Boulevard. The dog walkers and their canine companions will then march along Sloat Boulevard to get to Stern Grove, a City dog park.
According to a press release issued by the organizers of the Mighty Mutt Strut, the route “symbolizes what will happen if the GGNRA’s dog plans go through — people and their dogs will be forced out of the GGNRA and into city parks.”
The walk is meant as a public stand against the GGNRA plan, which would reduce off-leash dog access in 21 parks, including Ocean Beach and Fort Funston. The time period for public comments about the plan ends on May 29.
Petco, Citi Pets and Pet Food Express will have supply stations along the 1.2 mile walk to offer water and treats to the dogs.
The Mighty Mutt Strut is endorsed by: SFDOG, Ocean Beach DOG, Crissy Field Dog, DogPAC of SF, Fort Funston Dog Walkers, SF ProDog, Save Off Leash Dog Walking in the SF Bay Area and Keep Muir Beach Dog Friendly.

This is so great. I support Mighty Mutt’s effort and all they symbolize. For the future of Ocean Beach, and restoring it’s natural coastal wildlife, it is important that dog owners realize there are other places they can bring their dogs, like Sloat Ave. and all City streets and parks. And perhaps they’ll realize their own private property is the very best place for their dogs. I especially appreciate Might Mutt’s efforts to show that dog owners are a powerful and wealthy bunch of people willing to take action. If they band together, perhaps they can purchase some property themselves and set it aside for their dogs so that public property can be protected for natural habitat and wildlife, and for passive recreation by people not wanting to be harassed by dogs. Thank You Mighty Mutt !
Yes, because having only 99% of GGNRA closed to dogs is not enough for those that don’t like dogs. they won’t be happy until they get 100%.
Sorry DTBH, this has nothing to do with ‘not liking’ dogs. This has to do with protecting coastal resources and wildlife.
