Bay To Breakers in Photos

The weather reports warned of a rain-soaked Sunday morning, with a chance of thunder and hail. But when the 100th running of the Bay To Breakers began early on Sunday, May 15, the crowds were undaunted. As the morning progressed and the throngs of runners stormed the 12-kilometer course across the city, the skies parted to showcase a spectacular day for the historic race.

The Bulletin’s Mark Lukach and Kristine Mendoza were two of the thousands of participants this year, and they both brought along cameras to capture the moments, the costumes, and the energy that make Bay To Breakers one of the country’s most famous footraces.

Note to readers: some of these pictures feature the race in its most bare sense…if you know what we mean.
