A man was found dead at Ocean Beach Dec. 31, according to officials. The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as William Vinson, 57, of San Francisco.

Stephen Gelman, a medical examiner’s administrator, said the cause of Vinson’s death was under investigation. Gelman said that he couldn’t say when that investigation would be completed, but that the process often takes several weeks.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area representative George Durgerian earlier had confirmed that the body of a man was reported in the dunes at Ocean Beach at 11:33 a.m. Dec. 31, but he had no other information and directed inquiries to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
