Thanksgiving Feasts in the Outside Lands
Oh Thanksgiving, that most American of holidays when an annual expression of appreciation for family, friends, and food inevitably turns into an anxiety-wracked banquet of too-much-family under too-small-a-roof. Lucky for us who live in the Outside Lands, we’ve got several delectable options for a moveable feast that gets us out of the house and into the mood for celebrating without the worry. The best part is that someone else gets to do all the cooking and cleaning up for you.
Here’s a rundown of our local neighborhood places where you can satisfy your inner Thanksgiving glutton. Don’t forget to wear your Eatin’ Pants!
If you feel like getting a head start on stretching your belly for a full day of marathon eating, a great place to begin would be The Beach Chalet, located at 1000 Great Highway. They will feature a special Thanksgiving Brunch from 8:00am to 12:00pm. The Brunch will include many of their signature breakfast and brunch items, including Dungeness Crab in both Benedict and Cake (as in crab cake) form. Morning tipplers might also opt for a Pumpkin Latte with Jim Beam, or a Peppermint Martini. Then, commencing at 12:00pm and going on until 10:00pm, The Beach Chalet will be serving a three-course prix-fixe menu exclusively for Thanksgiving. Diners can choose from 3-4 selections for each of the 3 courses. Please note that the restaurant will only be serving this prix-fixe menu only for both lunch and dinner, on the entire Thanksgiving day. The prix-fixe price is $39 per person, $19 for kids 12 and under. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Just behind the Beach Chalet is The Park Chalet. They will be offering a Champagne Buffet Brunch all day beginning at 12:00pm. The Buffet will include salads, appetizers, and the full Thanksgiving spread of roast turkey, lamb chops, stuffing, potatoes, sides, and desserts. The buffet price is $39 per person, $19 for kids 12 and under. Reservations are strongly recommended.

For a true Old San Francisco experience, a place to take the out-of-towners would be historic Cliffhouse, located at 1090 Point Lobos Avenue. There are actually three dining options at the Cliffhouse: The Bistro, Sutro’s, and the Terrace Room Champagne Buffet.
At the charmingly old-school Cliff House Bistro, they will be serving their usual breakfast and light lunch menu from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Starting at 1:00pm, they will be serving a special holiday menu until 9:30pm. The menu features San Francisco classics such as Clam Chowder, Dungeness Crab Cakes, Cioppino, and Crab Louis, as well as traditional Thanksgiving dishes such as a Roast Turkey dinner with all the fixings. No reservations are taken at the Bistro, so get there early or be prepared to wait (they have a full bar and a great view). Click HERE for more details on the menu.
Downstairs is the elegant Sutro’s, which will also offer a special holiday menu from 11:00am until 9:30pm. The Sutro’s menu will feature modernized seasonal locally-sourced classics in an upscale setting, including a Roasted Diestel Ranch Turkey dinner with truffle gravy. Reservations are strongly recommended. Click HERE for more details on the menu.
The much-loved Cliffhouse Champagne Buffet will be held in their Terrace Room, situated right on the cliffside and overlooking onto the ocean below. The Buffet will be open from 11:00am to 6:45pm (latest reservation is 5:00pm). All the favorite Sunday brunch items will be offered, such as smoked salmon, prawns, steak, paella, salads, breakfast items and desserts, as well as traditional holiday fixings to go with the Roast Turkey and Baked Ham carving station. The buffet price is $59 for adults, $29.50 for kids 12 and under. Reservations are strongly recommended. Click HERE for more details on the menu.
If smaller mom-and-pop diners are more your style, there are a couple places in the Parkside that are offering Thanksgiving specials.
The Bashful Bull Too will have full holiday dinners added to their usual diner menu, such as Prime Rib, Honey Ham, or Roast Turkey with cranberry sauce & dressing, all served with soup or salad, veggies, potatoes, and dessert. These dinners will be available after Thanksgiving as well, through the Christmas holiday season. The Bashful Bull Too is located at 3600 Taraval Street at 46th Avenue.
On Thanksgiving day, the Tennessee Grill will be offering 10% off the entire bill for Ocean Beach Bulletin readers who mention they saw this in the Ocean Beach Bulletin! The Tennessee Grill is located at 1128 Taraval Street at 21st Avenue.
If you prefer something a bit less traditional (well, for San Francisco, anyways), you may want to check out Cajun Pacific Restaurant, a “Louisiana Kitchen” located at 4542 Irving Street at 47th Avenue. Although Cajun Pacific Restaurant is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday itself, Cajun Pacific Catering is now accepting catering orders for pick up between November 22nd to the 26th (deadline to order is Sunday November 21st). The specialties offered by Cajun Pacific include house-made Turducken using free-range hormone-free poultry. As described on their website, “an 18-21 pound turkey, 6 pound duck, and 5 pound chicken, boned and nested together with cornbread and rice stuffing between the layers”. You roast the turducken at home, with instructions provided upon request. For the just-so-slightly less adventurous, a Deep-Fried Turkey Dinner for 12 is also available, which includes an 18-21 pound turkey, 2 kinds of gravy, cranberry sauce, cornbread muffins, and choices of four different sides. Additional sides are also available a-la-carte. Click HERE for more details on the menu and ordering.
