Sunset Nursery School Gets a Whale of a Mural

Chris Del Moro--artist, surfer, and activist, working on the Sunset Co-op Mural

Chris Del Moro, a professional surfer and activist with the environmental group Surfers for Cetaceans, has been painting a mural at the new Sunset Cooperative Nursery School as a part of the Save The Waves Film Festival.

Del Moro, who will be screening his film “Transparent Sea” at the festival on Friday night at the Victoria Theater, has been painting mother-and-calf whales on walls throughout the country, in a campaign to raise awareness about the challenges facing whales and dolphins that he calls “Where There’s a Wall, There’s a Whale.”

The mural will be completed Friday afternoon and is a complement to the refurbished nursery school, which is still undergoing renovations. It now joins the ranks of the many murals that beautify the Outer Sunset.
