Halloween activities in the Richmond and Sunset districts
Still looking for something to do for Halloween? There’s plenty going on in the Outer Richmond and Outer Sunset (and slightly beyond). And if you’re doing some grown-up partying on Halloween night, don’t forget you can get a free cab ride home instead of driving.
The Many Haunts of the Richmond District: Richmond District Neighborhood Center, noon – 3:30 p.m. The Multicultural Children’s Arts Program presents “The Many Haunts of the Richmond District” – a free festival for the whole family. Come to the Richmond District Neighborhood Center in costume and enjoy arts and crafts, cupcake decorating, games, a haunted house, a craft bazaar and much more.
Halloween Ceili: United Irish Cultural Center, 7 – 10 p.m. Live music with the Shannon Céilí Band, with special entertainment from the Sean Nós Dancers. Prize for best costume. Adults $10, children free.
Boo at the Zoo: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., San Francisco Zoo. Free with Zoo admission. Your favorite Halloween event of the year is back! Come walk the Haunted Nature Trail, explore your way out of the Rainforest Maze Adventure, trick-or-treat throughout the Zoo and more. Check out Puppet Art Theater and Witch Hazelnut’s spooky stories, make some scary crafts and even see some “creepy” critters during this “spook”tacular event. Plus, you won’t want to miss seeing the Zoo’s animals enjoy some special treats of their own during the Pumpkin “Stomp ‘n Chomp.” The Zoo requests that trick-or-treaters not wear rubber masks as they may frighten the animals.
Halloween Carnival: Stonestown YMCA, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. $5 per child, parents and
children under 2 are free. Don’t miss the ultimate Halloween experience at the Stonestown Family YMCA! All children are invited to enjoy a variety of spooktacular activities including inflatable haunted houses, ghoulish games and prizes, disgusting delights, creepy crafts, face painting, trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, and pumpkin decorating.
SuperNatural Festival: California Academy of Sciences, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Celebrate Halloween with chills and thrills at the Academy! Enjoy ghoulish music by 102.1 KDFC and Radio Disney, join a costume parade, or delight in performances by Velocity Circus, magicians, and more! The family fun continues with cockroaches, snakes and other creepy crawly critters during live animal demonstrations and special programs. Come in costume and get a free trick or treat bag! Events and entertainment are included with daily general admission.
The Bride of Trickster Treat: Golden Gate Park Polo Fields, 2 p.m. Bicycle race and scavenger hunt. Registration at 2 p.m. Fundraising for Up On Top, an after-school program for elementary-school kids in the Tenderloin. Bonuses for costumes, including a special Best Costume prize. After party at Bender’s at South Van Ness Avenue and 19th Street.
